Getting To Know Steppin' Out
Beth Berry, Steppin' Out's founder and principal owner, had been teaching dance in her home basement
for a number of years, when her enrollment outgrew her home studio. So a decision was made to move to a bigger location.
In the summer of 2004, in a new building in the Watersong Professional Village just north of the corner of Coldwater and Union Chapel
Road, Steppin’ Out Studio of Dance opened.
Now in our 8th year, Steppin' Out has grown to an enrollment of over 350 students,
from age 3 through high school, with after-school and evening classes Monday through Thursday.
Over 50 of our
dance students are members of the Steppin' Out Competition Team. We participate in at least two regional dance competitions
each spring, and every other summer we participate in a national dance competition.
We currently have eight dance instructors. Six
of our instructors have college degrees in dance and two are completing their college education with minors in Dance at
IPFW.
Our instructors emphasize proper technique and develop challenging choreography for all classes. We provide
a positive, personalized, and encouraging learning environment.
Steppin' Out has five dance rooms, all with wall-to-wall mirrors, dance barres, sound systems, and Harlequin dance floors.
Our spacious lobby features five flat-screen TV monitors. Video cameras in each dance room provide parents the opportunity to
watch their students practice in class. Our studio is WI-FI equipped, so parents and students can access the Internet and e-mail.
A first-rate dance education is important, but keeping up with homework is, too. For students who have breaks between dance
classes, our study area comes in handy.
If students bring meals from home, we have a kitchen area with a refrigerator and microwave
for their use. We also have bottled water and a variety of snacks for sale.
Outside of the dance rooms are cubbies and coathangers for students to use for their belongings.
